Our Puppies

Week 1
Babies are born blind and helpless.
At this point, it's all hands on deck with 24-hour observation of mum and pups. Mum (and pups!) have to be kept emotionally and physically comfortable in a quiet, calm room away from the rest of the household. Nothing can make her feel that her pups are threatened in any way.
Both puppies and mum need a once/twice daily health check with frequent bedding changes.
ENS and ESI start around day 3, depending on the puppy's health.

Week 2
We continue with our once-to-twice daily puppy weigh-ins. Any puppy not gaining weight is given extra help at the milk bar and topped up with extra puppy formula.
The nursery is kept at a strict 21 degrees with a heat pad available for puppies. Puppies cannot control their body temperature, which in turn affects food digestion.

Week 3
Eyes and ears are now open, and they start to use their voices!
It's time to move them into the kitchen, so we start with some loud noise exercises beforehand and some new items for them to explore in their whelping box.
We start with their gentle handling exercises and continue with their noise and new item exposure.

Week 4
Weaning begins with a finely minced chicken.
Potty training starts
Puppy curriculum starts in earnest with a new noise, handling and exposure activity every day.
A worm count is done on mum and pups, and treatment is given if necessary.
Puppies start to meet new puppy parents.

Week 5
Outside play begins with an introduction to water and lots of different outside surfaces. The older dogs are now able to play gently.
Potty training, crate exposure, learning to sit for food, handling and exposure activities continue.

Week 6
Chicken wings are introduced to promote clean teeth.
The puppies have their first ride in the car for vet micro chipping and checks.
Puppy Curriculum continues.

Week 7
More trips out in the car for eye tests.
Now we start practising alone time. As well as Puppy Curriculum.

Week 8
We continue with manners, crates, potty training and puppy curriculum.
1st Vaccination, puppy check and Worm Count done ready for puppies to go home.

Week 9
Time to go home!
Puppies sent home with a week's worth of food, a puppy pack, a worm count and a lifetime of contact.
